Daddy and Me

July.  Family and Friends surround us.
Not bothered by the heat, we all enjoy each other's company.
Blessed to participate in such a beautiful day.
The green grass we sit on.
The bright blue sky sits above us.

I sit on my father's lap
As if it was a seat made just for me
I feel protected
As I sip on my juice box
Not that I have a care in the world as a 2 yr. old

It's clear that we have a special bond
There were a million other places to sit
But, I chose his lap.
I feel loved.
An irreplaceable bond.

  1. Sitting on my parent's lap while growing up are among the best of my memories because we did not need words to describe our feelings for one another as it was implied. But as I get older, I find that I am in greater need of words to express my emotions because the distance between us is greater.

The simple nature of how your poem was written goes well in explaining the depth of love in this small act. Very nicely written.

  2. I really enjoyed your poem. It was touching and beautiful and something that many girls can relate to. I liked how you completely described the scene and just made it sound relaxing and enjoyable. My favorite line was the last one "An irreplaceable bond" because you are absolutely right!

  4. I also felt a connection to your poem. My father was a big support and the only one I had growing up. I would always choose to sit on my fathers lap or cuddle while watching a movie, until I got older and too heavy. He and I still have that irreplaceable bond. Great job!
